Bible
Studies
Many Ugandans do not believe
children can learn until they are 6 or 7 years old. Therefore, Bible study
programs in Uganda have generally been slow to develop. After several years
of effort, MCC now offers Bible studies for both English and non-English
speaking children as well as adults at 9:00 every Sunday morning. God has
blessed us with many children and enthusiastic, dedicated teachers to teach
them. |

Youth
In Uganda, the “youth” include
young people from about age 13 to 30. The MCC youth group combines fun and
fellowship, worship and work as they meet together several days a week. One
day it might be a friendly volleyball match with a team from a neighboring
school or church. Another afternoon it might be a Bible study, rehearsing
for a skit or special song for the church, or even filling potholes in a
neighborhood road. God has blessed these various activities for spiritual
growth and effective outreach to friends who need to hear the good news. |

Women’s
Ministry
The ladies of MCC are serious
about growing into women of God through Bible study and service to others.
It is the goal of the women’s ministry that each one will develop her gifts
to the fullest extent. This includes learning how to study the Bible,
preparing and presenting lessons to the class. The activities for their
weekly Sunday afternoon meetings might involve Bible study, fellowship, or
visiting the homes of those who have suffered loss and sickness. In time,
these ladies will reach out to neighboring villages, teaching the word of
God with confidence and knowledge, trusting the Lord for guidance.
In addition to Bible study, the women of MCC participate in tailoring
classes twice a week where they learn a valuable skill. Most women in Uganda
have a limited education and few opportunities to develop skills beyond
cooking and childcare. They have almost no means of support other than the
meager earnings of their husbands. Many feel isolated and hopeless. Through
the tailoring classes these women not only learn how to sew, they also are
developing relationships with other women in a Christian environment where
they feel supported and successful. The tailoring classes have also worked
as outreach to the community. Several women from the community have been
baptized as a result of relationships developed in tailoring class. |

Benevolence
In a country as poor as Uganda,
the genuine needs of the people are endless. MCC has dedicated 10% of the weekly
offering/contribution for benevolence. Those needing help visit with a
committee made up of MCC members, who have developed guidelines for when to
help and how to take care of the most urgent needs. |
|
Planning
Committee
A planning committee made up of
leaders of the various MCC ministries meets monthly to plan for events and
activities, deal with conflicts, and help set a direction for the church.
Until the church grows to the point of having qualified men serve as elders,
this group provides and opportunity to see and hear the heart of the members
at MCC. |

Evangelism
The people at MCC are excited to
tell others about Jesus Christ. Individual members are talking with their
friends, family and acquaintances. A volleyball team from a neighboring
Muslim village came to worship because of relationships with our youth. One
of the women brought her sister to worship after the ladies class visited in
her home. Several primary school teachers have attended because one of their
well -respected students invited them. Our watchman, an excellent
evangelist, teaches anyone who stops by the building. Evangelism is truly an
every day, house to house activity in Mbale. |
|
Missions
From the beginning, missions has
been a high priority at MCC, with 20% of the weekly contribution/offering
designated for this purpose. This enables national missionaries to be sent
to Rakai, a district far from Mbale, where God is working and the church is
growing quickly. At least 12 congregations have been established in that
district from 2000 to early 2003.
God is also working closer to home on the
mountain just behind Mbale, whose population is primarily Muslim. In the
village of Nabisolo, a church has been established after initial contact,
follow-up visits and teaching. Having seen the involvement of MCC at
Nabisolo, neighboring villages are requesting visits and preaching. As a
result, teachers from within the leadership of MCC go up the mountain each
week to preach and encourage. This aids in creating a spirit of “Africans
reaching Africa”. Currently MCC has been instrumental in the planting
and/or growth of 2 village churches in the area including Nabisolo and Bubirabi. These churches are now part of the
Mbale North Cluster of churches that meet together regularly for mutual
encouragement and joint problem solving. |

Hospital Visitation
On the last Sunday of each month, men and women from MCC visit patients at the Mbale hospital. The women distribute
gifts for the patients (cookies, soap, and milk) while the men pray with the
patients and their families. |
